TV & Film

Filming in the Red Drawing RoomHopetoun House is the ideal setting for a variety of TV and film locations.

Hopetoun offers a wealth of outdoor and indoor film location options providing everything from sumptuous period rooms to dark cobbled lanes.

The House has a variety of interiors including grand State Apartments with ornate ceilings and period furniture, an oak panelled Parlour with French doors opening onto expansive lawns and fountain, a sweeping staircase with murals and cupola, and a grand ballroom whose entrance hall features tiger mounts. Alternatively there are rooms awaiting renovation that would be suitable for shots requiring less grand or ghostly surroundings.

Rear Entrance to Hopetoun HouseExternally there are two impressive facades to the building. The imposing Adam façade facing East, and the more intimate Bruce façade facing West. There are over 150 acres of mature parkland with extensive lawned areas, a deer park, woodland, panoramic vistas over the Firth of Forth and the Forth bridges, semi-derelict out buildings and cobbled courtyards and lanes.

Hopetoun is really two houses in one and the marked differences in style between the original Bruce House and the later Adam additions can still be appreciated today. The older, more sedate Bruce House has the look and feel of a comfortable, country house while the Adam House has an altogether more sophisticated feel with the influences of grand European palaces such as Versailles in France very much evidence. Since its completion in the mid 18th century the House has remained substantially unaltered.
